What happens when dental professionals from across the country gather for an intensive implant dentistry course? The following collective narrative distills the experiences of several attendees from the March 2025 ZestMasters Certification Course in Las Vegas. While primarily following one participant's journey, these observations reflect common threads expressed by multiple professionals who completed the program. Their shared enthusiasm for the hands-on learning environment, expert instruction, and practical clinical applications illustrates why ZestMasters continues to gain recognition as a transformative educational experience in implant dentistry.
This account captures the essence of what participants consistently describe as a career-enhancing investment:
After attending the March 7-8, 2025 ZestMasters Certification Course in Las Vegas, I returned to my practice with renewed enthusiasm and valuable hands-on experience. The two-day program focused on full-arch dental implant diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical procedures was both intensive and incredibly rewarding. Here are my top five takeaways from this outstanding educational experience.
1. Hands-On Attachment Procedures with Expert Guidance
The morning session where we practiced overdenture attachment procedures on four-implant models was incredibly practical. Dr. Joe Massad is the real deal - he didn't just lecture from the front of the room but got right in there with us.
What impressed me most was how accessible and generous all the instructors were with their knowledge. When I described a recurring attachment issue I'd encountered in my practice, Dr. Massad took the time to walk me through several alternative approaches. Many colleagues brought clinical challenges to the table, and the faculty addressed each one thoughtfully with practical solutions. This personalized troubleshooting alone was worth the price of admission, and can be hard to find in most CE courses.
2. Live Patient Demonstration: Bridging Theory and Practice
The highlight of the course was observing Dr. Scherer perform procedures on a live patient while we followed along on our models. This real-time demonstration bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical application in a way textbooks and videos simply cannot.
Being part of one of the first groups to experience this new live-patient component was particularly valuable. When minor complications arose during the procedure—as they inevitably do in clinical practice—seeing how Dr. Scherer adapted in real-time and explained his decision-making process was incredibly instructive. The ability to ask questions during the procedure and then immediately practice the techniques on our models reinforced the learning in a powerful way.

3. Meaningful Networking at Flight Club
The evening social at Flight Club was a pleasant surprise. I’m typically not one for the networking events at CE courses—those often feel a little forced and uncomfortable. But this was different. The atmosphere at Flight Club, with its high-tech darts and interactive games, immediately broke the ice. It was a perfect setting to unwind and connect with fellow professionals in a more relaxed environment.
Between games, I had an in-depth conversation with a dentist from Colorado who had recently solved an implant issue I’d been struggling with. The setting made it easy to share ideas, swap clinical experiences, and just talk shop in a way that felt natural. The combination of interactive activities, delicious small plates to share, and expertly crafted cocktails really created a fun, low-pressure vibe that made it easy to build connections.
I left the night not only with valuable clinical tips but also with a newfound appreciation for brussels sprouts—who knew they could taste that good?
4. Practical Experience with Implant Placement and LOCATOR Abutments

The surgical hands-on session on day two was where things really started clicking for me. Working with both narrow and standard diameter implants gave me a much better understanding of when to use each option. Plus, the tactile feedback from the models closely mimicked actual clinical scenarios, helping me develop muscle memory for proper implant positioning.
What truly enhanced this session was the afternoon focus on managing angled implant cases. We worked through measuring tissue depth, selecting proper abutment heights, and understanding the critical differences between standard and extended range inserts. The instructors showed us exactly how much angulation each system could accommodate without compromising retention or increasing wear rates. I particularly appreciated learning the practical limits of these components—knowing exactly when I can manage an angle with the right attachment versus when I might need to consider a different approach altogether. This session transformed what had been a source of frustration in my practice into something I now feel confident handling.
5. Comprehensive Knowledge with Practical Applications
Throughout the course, the balance between didactic instruction and hands-on application was perfect. From the fundamentals of overdentures to the intricacies of full-arch fixed restorations, each concept was first explained clearly, then demonstrated, and finally practiced under expert supervision.
The troubleshooting session on day two has proven particularly valuable since returning to practice. Many of the challenges I've encountered with existing overdenture cases now have clear solutions thanks to the systematic approach taught during the course.
Final Thoughts
ZestMasters exceeded my expectations in every way. The curriculum covered all the bases, the instructors were truly top-notch clinicians who could actually teach, and there was so much hands-on practice that I felt like I'd gained years of experience in just two days.
Whether you're looking to start offering more implant services or you just want to get better at what you're already doing with attachments and overdentures, I can't recommend this program enough. It delivers real value you can use immediately, plus it was genuinely the most enjoyable CE course I've taken in quite some time. I actually didn't want it to end!
The whole experience has given me a new level of confidence to take on more challenging cases. Beyond just the clinical stuff, I left Vegas with connections to both colleagues and some of the faculty that I'll be reaching out to for years to come. It's rare to find a CE course where the instructors actually give you their contact info and mean it when they say "reach out if you have questions." All in all, this was time and money extremely well spent. I will be back!
I'm already looking forward to coming back for another ZestMasters course in a few years to see what new techniques and technologies they're teaching. In this field, you never stop learning, and I can't think of a better place to continue that education than with the Zest team.
